Honestly, there’s no better way to close out 2025 than a good, sloppy New Year’s Eve.
That goes out the window with kids. Good thing we got your back.

Chabot’s Balloon Drop | 10am–5pm | Chabot Space & Science Center | $10 per child + admission | Ballon drops every hour starting at 10am.
Lawrence Hall of Science – New Year’s “Grand Finale” | 10am–4pm | Lawrence Hall of Science | $25 ages 3+ | They have a confetti cannon, say less.

OUSD approves $103M in tentative cuts to avoid state receivership — The proposed cuts come after months of council in-fighting. Notably the cuts assume OUSD enrollment will rise by 2% for the next 2 years, boosting revenues by $20M. But new this AM, things may be shifting with the departure of two council-members.
Oakland City Council votes 7-1 to keep Flock cameras — The deal labeled as a “2 year experiment” includes provisions to not share data with ICE and is valued at $2.25M. Over 300 cameras are already installed in Oakland, with another 40 approved.
Say good-bye to free Sunday parking — Oakland’s Department of Transportation recently announced they will begin enforcing parking in the city on Sunday starting Jan. 4. The first 30-days will be a “warning.” After that, ZING.
