Stories from The Bay

Oakland In-N-Out site purchased for $1.8M — The site will become a new restaurant called Currylane Kitchen helmed by a Santa Rosa-backed hospitality company.

Piedmont armed robbery rattles neighborhood — Two armed robbers assaulted a resident after demanding cash during a late-night robbery. Flock cameras were used to locate the suspects car within an hour, although it had been abandoned.

New headache: Rise of license plate theft — with the expanded use of license plate readers like Flock and speed cameras, thieves are stealing and swapping plates to avoid detection.

And about the speed camera warnings… Thank you to everyone who replied. Special shoutout to Eric for the thoughtful response.

Turns out many of us have gotten these warnings. So if you got one, you’re not alone.

For the record: I’m firmly in the camp of safe, Oakland streets. My kids live here. I walk/run many Oakland streets. I’ve witnessed the issues.

And I believe all options to achieve that goal should be thoroughly explored. Full stop.

But I’m skeptical these cameras will solve root cause of the issue. Time could prove me wrong.

I’ll keep following this story and learning. Please keep sharing your experiences.

And that’s all folks.

I hope you have a safe, productive weekend.

TBD but I may or may not be at 3919 Marche Saturday… AKA this dad is going out.

See you out there,

-Kolby
