Town News

Stories from The Bay

$34M property tax increase likely heading to June ballots – The apparent need for a tax increase stems from the City Council’s decision to claim a city budget “surplus,” which would automatically trigger a union employee raise, up to $134M in added expenses over 9 years.

The kicker: the surplus may not actually exist. AND union representatives are using a “citizen sponsored” loophole to potentially pass the parcel tax on a simple majority – something other parcel taxes need 60%+.  S/o to Oakland Report for reporting.

Man breaks into Oakland Police HQ – After breaking in through a glass door, the man wandered several floors and stole a radio before officers found and arrested him.

Pothole crash settles for $400k – A bicyclist who was injured after striking a pothole of Grizzly Peak last year, settled for $400k with the City of Oakland. $35M has been paid out in the last 10 years due to poor road conditions.

Temescal’s Small Change returns as Ace Seafood – two former staff members have relaunched the restaurant with a new revamped menu hoping to appeal to a broader audience. Yes, there’s still oysters, but also fish & chips.

That’s a wrap.

Appreciate all the feedback and thoughts. I’m focused on improving a few things with this ‘sletter this month.

Keep an eye out for changes and announcements.

See you in town,
